Winner walks away with a whopping R20,000!
The Cape Town based Pro Billiards League (PBL), boasts its 7th season this year and is worth a cool R100k and more in prizes which includes shirts, trophies, prize giving and additional comps! The initiative which had humble beginnings back in 2009 had less than 20 participants but has more than doubled in numbers this year. Promoters, Dudley Graham and Martin Greyvenstein said they are extremely happy that there are 50 players in the open category and are even more pleased that the ladies category has 26 participants playing this year. The Pro Billiards Ladies League is managed by Jolene Gillespie.
The round-robin format is a little different to the norm, accommodating both 8ball and Blackball in one match which brings a new dynamic to the table. Each match is consists of 2 sets of 7 frames with one set of 8Ball and the other Blackball. Before the prize money stages start, the players compete in a qualification whereby groups of 10 players’ play-off to see the top 50% progress to the A Division and the balance make up the B Division.
Some of Cape Town’s most recognized players participate in the event and include names such as Paul Bennett, Rushin Bowers, Clinton Marks, Shaun Martheze, Adriaan Engelbrectht, Dudley Graham, Dean Byleveld and Jacques Cronje. The league is played every Tuesday evening in no less than 5 venues in and around Cape Town and every new entrant gets a PBL branded golf shirt.
Both Graham and Greyvenstein have set their goals at making this the biggest and most competitive singles league in Cape Town and have decided to put the stats on Mobile Ranking Technologies (MRT) engine through Cuesportfever.com.
